Ballinderry to appeal championship ban
July 01, 2009
Ballinderry are to appeal against the ban which prevents them from defending their Derry SFC title.
The Shamrocks were banned from playing in all adult competitions for three months by the Derry CCC following the incident involving James Conway and his county colleague James Kielt in a recent senior league game against Kilrea.
Conway received an eight-match ban following the incident which left Kielt with a broken jaw, but had it lifted on appeal. The midfielder had been dropped from the county panel by manager Damian Cassidy, but is now available for Derry's All-Ireland qualifier on July 11.
Two Ballinderry officials were initially suspended for six months each for their failure to cooperate with the Derry CCC's investigations, while the club was also banned from all adult league competitions for six months, but this was subsequently reduced to three.
As part of their sanction, the county champions were also banned from this year's Derry SFC, but they intend appealing this as well.
