'Shaper' lands dream job

Former Offaly star David Reynolds
Former Offaly football star David 'Shaper' Reynolds is set to travel the world as caddy to Ireland's newest golf sensation Shane Lowry.
It is a dream role for the unemployed carpenter who was at Lowry's side when he won the Irish Open at Baltray last Sunday. Yesterday, the 22-year-old confirmed his decision to turn professional and also confirmed that fellow Clara man Reynolds would be continuing as his caddy. As a tour caddy, Reynolds will get a cut of any prize money Shane wins, starting at next week's European Open at the London Club in Kent.
"Dave was in the buildings and that's not going great - so he hasn't been doing anything for the past while," said Lowry, whose father Brendan played alongside Reynolds in the latter part of his long Offaly career.
"He's happy to have a job now. He's been great to me and I feel I owe it to him to give him the chance to learn about caddying and to see if he can do the job for me."
Now 39, Reynolds was Offaly's free-taker and top-scorer when they last won the Leinster SFC title in 1997. Many supporters remember him for wearing his collar up - something which was made fashionable by soccer star Eric Cantona at the time.
