Death of former Clare hurler
February 05, 2009
Clare GAA has been plunged into mourning by the sudden passing of St Joseph's Doora-Barefield stalwart Ger Hoey.
Ger, who lined out at intercounty level for both his native Clare and Laois, passed away suddenly on Tuesday night, aged 41.
He won an All-Ireland club championship medal with his club in 1999 and played in another All-Ireland final against Athenry the following year.
Winner of a Laois SHC with Portlaoise in 1989, Ger collected three Clare SHCs and also served Doora-Barefield as treasurer. He was a brother of another well-known Banner County hurler, David Hoey.
