Foley to remain Limerick captain

Mark Foley will retain the Limerick hurling captaincy in 2009 if he decides to stay on.
New Limerick manager Justin McCarthy has revealed that he does not intend changing the system on Shannonside where the club champions have the right to nominate the county team captain. And that means veteran half back Foley, who starred in Adare's Limerick SHC triumph and their subsequent march to the Munster club final, will continue in the role if he is prepared to play on.
The 33-year-old, who has been involved with Limerick since 1995, is set to decide in the coming weeks whether he will be committing himself to the cause for another year.
"The county champions will pick the captain for the team," confirmed McCarthy who, in his last two years as Waterford manager, had the power to pick his own captain.
Curiously, Foley is not the Adare captain, with Donncha Sheehan fulfilling that role for the past two years, but the former All-Star was chosen by his club to lead Limerick this year, and that pattern is set to be repeated next year if he decides to come back.
