Dublin-Kerry clash moved to avoid soccer clash
November 27, 2008
Dublin's glamour tie with Kerry in next year's National Football League has been put back 24 hours to avoid clashing with a soccer international at Croke Park.
The draft National Football League fixture list had the match down for Parnell Park on Saturday, March 28, but the Republic of Ireland play Bulgaria in the World Cup qualifier at nearby Croke Park on the same day, leading to fears of major traffic congestion on the northside of the city.
But the master fixture list released yesterday has solved the problem by putting the meeting between Gaelic football's two most successful counties back to the Sunday.
Pat Gilroy's charges will begin their league campaign with another high-profile fixture when they meet All-Ireland champions Tyrone under the Croke Park floodlights on January 31.
