Kelleher calls for Dublin fans to be 'realistic'
November 26, 2008
Former Dublin hurling manager Humphrey Kelleher has warned fans not to expect Anthony Daly to perform miracles.
The Waterford native, who managed the Dubs for two years earlier this decade, believes Daly's appointment as manager is a huge boost for hurling in the capital, but has urged supporters to show patience.
"It is a great appointment at a critical time, not just for the current players, but also for every aspiring hurler in Dublin," he said.
"It sends out a clear message about how serious Dublin are about improving hurling in the county. We are in the top league of managers now. But I would temper that by cautioning against expectations of immediate success. People have to be realistic."
Kelleher added: "Anthony will bring so much pride, enthusiasm and intensity to Dublin, but it's up to the players to carry that on. There's no point giving instructions if they're not taken on board.
"If the players are not good enough to beat Kilkenny now, they have to ask why, and what can they do to improve.
"Anthony knows what it's like to be in the doldrums, he was there as a player with Clare in the past. He will look to improve the first touch. This is a big boost for Dublin hurling."
