Bailey declares candidacy
November 20, 2008
John Bailey has confirmed that he will be seeking a return to the Dublin chair at county convention on December 8.
The Cuala clubman and former inter-county referee has already served two stints as chairman and has confirmed his intention to run against the outgoing Gerry Harrington, having dropped out of the race two years ago at the last minute.
Bailey insists there is no conflict with Harrington and that he is running to give Dublin delegates a choice.
"I would hope to continue where I left off four years ago," he said.
"During my first term, Parnell Park was built, a coaching programme for Dublin was implemented and we bought land in Rathcoole (the site of a proposed new training ground).
"We're hoping to get a site in the Northside to develop something similar and we have been extremely lucky to have people of the calibre of county secretary John Costello and Sean O'Mahony, Patsy Kiernan and Kevin O'Shaughnessy at Parnell Park."
He added: "If I don't get elected to the chair, I'll shake hands with Gerry Harrington and we'll move on."
