New Cooley boss Gallagher sets sights high
November 14, 2008
Local man Peadar Gallagher has been appointed manager of Cooley Kickhams and his immediate target is the Joe Ward Cup.
The peninsula men haven't won the premier competition in the Wee County since 1990 and the SFC has become their Holy Grail. They've landed four of the last five Division One leagues and have been recognised as one of the county's Big Four for the best part of a decade - but ultimate honours are proving elusive.
Even Pete McGrath failed to work the oracle but the former Naomh Malachi boss has his sights fixed firmly on the big one:
"It's a great honour to manage your own club but it's a big task as well. Expectations are high in Cooley but it has been too long since we've won the championship.
"My aim next year is to win it, though. I have no other target. We've won the last three league titles and a lot of other clubs would be happy with that, but for us there is only one goal and that is Joe Ward."
