Championship to undergo restructure

November 13, 2008
The 2009 Longford senior football championship is set to be ran on a different format than before after radical changes were ratified at a recent County Board meeting. Next year's senior championship will be ran on a group basis with three groups of four and one group of three, ensuring more games for each side concerned. The top two in each group will then enter the quarterfinals, while the remaining teams must enter a relegation group with the bottom side heading for the intermediate grade. The four teams that reached this year's semi finals will be seeded and they will be placed in separate groups and thus cannot meet until the knockout stages. Meanwhile, the league is also to be revamped and their will be 15 teams in Division 1 with the top eight going through to the quarterfinals.
