Colmcille face baptism of fire
November 06, 2008
When a team enters the Leinster club championship for the very first time, they would be hoping that the draw would be kind to them, but that is not the case for Colmcille as they face experienced Carlow outfit Eire Og at Dr Cullen Park on Sunday.
Many may say that Eire Og are only the Carlow champions, but they are one of the most experienced sides when it comes to the Leinster club campaign as they won five provincial titles during the 90's and Colmcille will enter the match as underdogs.
The fact that the Carlow side have a game under their belt also helps their cause as they defeated Wicklow side Kiltegan by four points last weekend.
Colmcille's preparations have not been helped by the fact that county player Noel Farrell is a major doubt through injury, although he is the only concern at the moment.
Eire Og took on Longford champions Dromard in 2005 and the Carlow kingpins ran out 0-12 to 0-4; however Colmcille will be hoping to put up a better display.
