In the days after helping his country to victory over Australia, Colm Begley has been told that he does not fit in with the plans of Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss and has been subsequently let go from the AFL club. The Laois native had hoped to impress Voss during this month's International Rules series, but it has emerged that he will not be offered a new contract with Lions and is now expected to enter next month's national draft to try and resurrect his professional playing career. Begley first joined Lions as an International rookie back in 2005 and played 29 games for the club, making his debut just eight months after settling in in Brisbane. In 2007, he won rookie of the year honours before injury the following year would ravage his season, limiting him to just eight appearances.
