Derry chief admits the clock is ticking
October 11, 2008
A leading Derry GAA official has admitted that time is of the essence regarding the refurbishment of Celtic Park in time for next year's championship.
The Oak Leafers face Monaghan in the Ulster SFC next June and while builders have begun work last month on constructing a 5,000 capacity stand there, county chairman Seamus McCloy has acknowledged that everyone will need to get their skates on.
"We have to meet the builders next week to check the programme to see if we can be out on time," said McCloy.
"Danny Murphy (Ulster Council Secretary) has said we must be out of it by early May.
"The stand is the most important thing. No matter what match you go to you need a stand and comfortable control and press facilities.
"Ulster Council would like 18-20,000 capacity, but it wouldn't bother us if the capacity was 5,000, you have this 20,000 capacity for once every 10 years."
