JFC final takes centre stage

October 10, 2008
The big game of the weekend is the meeting of Robert Emmets and Carndonagh in the junior football championship final at Ballybofey on Sunday (throw-in 4pm). Emmets are bidding for their third title in their current guise, having previously triumphed in 1987 and 2001. Carndonagh are also bidding for their third Dr McCluskey Cup success, but have to go all the way back to 1952 for their last win in the grade. Emmets were impressive in their 1-14 to 1-8 semi-final victory over neighbours Naomh Padraig and go into the final as slight favourites. But their manager Dessie McFeely knows it will be close. "We have them (Carndonagh) twice so far and there has been nothing between us. We beat them a few weeks ago in the league, but I'm not reading a lot into that game. We were short a few players and they were short a good few from the team that beat Naomh Ultan the week before in the semi-final," he said. The final will be preceded by the meeting of St. Eunan's - who are chasing a third adult football title in a matter of weeks - and Convoy in the junior 'B' final (throw-in 2pm).
