O Kane appointed UUJ New Senior Hurling Manager

October 07, 2008
University of Ulster Jordanstown Senior hurlers begin a new season this Wednesday with their first league match against Queens University at the Dub playing fields @ 2.00pm.  This follows the appointment of former Antrim hurling veteran and Dunloy clubman Gregory O'Kane as the new senior team manager. Speaking on the appointment Club PRO Dominic Kearns: Gregory was the ideal man for the job, considering his commitment and achievements as a player at both club and inter-county level over the past twenty odd years. He is a great leader on the field of play and hopefully this can rub off on our players. The players themselves have a lot of respect for him and optimism in the squad about the up and coming year is great. This year there has been unprecedented number of hurlers, up and towards fifty players, most of which are current inter-county and club stars, so there's no shortage of talent this year at the Poly. We are  entered into the Ryan Cup this year, so we'll be giving it a good go after coming so near two years ago. Gregory has a few months now to look at the players through the league and then we'll throw everything at the Championship.
