City League Competition
Training for both the U-9 and U-11 teams continues in Kent Park on Mondays and Wednesdays. The U-11s had two good wins over Ballisadare and Drumcliffe Ros/Pt. last week, with outstanding performances from Shane O'Hehir and Tony O'Kelly Lynch. The U-9s also had a good win over Drumcliffe Ros/Pt. with excellent performances by Cian Muldowney and Shane Monaghan. Both teams played St. John's U-9/U-11 on Monday 29th, results to follow next week. Semi-finals and Finals take place 11th October and 18th October.
U-18 - Our minors must do battle again with Bunninadden after a pulsating game which ended honours even (St. Mary's 2-13 Bunninadden 4-7) in Markievicz Park on Sunday last. Despite going behind by 4 points on three occasions our young team showed superb spirit, determination and commitment to battle back and take the lead with only minutes left to play leaving Bunninadden to equalize from a free from the last kick of the game. Great credit is due to the management team of Paul Newton, Kevin Molloy and Declan McGoldrick for all the work put into this group over the past number of months, they have come in leaps and bounds and with 11 of the starting line up underage next year the future is looking very bright for our minor team.
Finally a big thank you to all our supporters for coming out in such big numbers and really getting behind our lads when the game was in the balance. At the time of going to press we are not sure of the arrangements for the replay but we would ask all club supporters to get out and support our lads in the replay in their efforts to win a long overdue minor title. The last time we won a minor title was 1997 with a team that featured Mark Breheny, Jonathon Martyn and Jonathon Davey all of whom went on to win U-21 and senior titles with the club as well as winning a Connacht title with Sligo last year. All players are requested to attend all training sessions on Monday and Friday.
New Club Signs
Well done to Peter Farrell for all his work on organizing the new signs around the club as gaeilge. The new sign at the front of the clubhouse and the new sign at the roadside are very impressive and the feedback from visitors has been really positive.
Best Wishes
The Club wishes our President Roger Eames the best on his recent 85th birthday celebrated in Leitrim.

City League Competition
Training for both the U-9 and U-11 teams continues in Kent Park on Mondays and Wednesdays. Scór na nÓg 2008/2009
In addition to promoting Gaelic games one of the stated aims of the GAA is the promotion of Irish culture. To this end Scór was founded in 1969 and a special programme to celebrate 40 years will be held early next year. Each club has been requested to provide a brief history of its achievements and a booklet will be produced in time for the first round of the Scór Divisional Championship on Sunday 30th November in St. John's Hall, Carraroe, Sligeach.
St. Mary's had a very strong contingent of competitors who qualified for the County Finals of Scór na nÓg last January in Drama, recitation, Ballad Group, Grúpa Cheoil agus amhraníocht aonair. This year we hope to build on that success and the great enjoyment experienced by all the young talented people in our club.
To kickstart this year's competition a meeting will be held in the Clubhouse next Friday night 10th October at 8.30pm. All parents and participants are invited to attend. Le gach deá guí, Peter Farrell Mobile no. 085 1744053.
Sympathy
The Club extends deepest sympathies to the McDermott and Smith Families on the death of
Mike Smith (Boyle), the father of Edel and grandfather of Niall McDermott. The Club extends sympathies to the families of Fr. John McGowan who won an All Ireland Scór medal with a ballad group for Muire Naofa in the 1970s and to Vinny McGuinn, Junior soccer referee who died recently.
