Cummins eager to maintain progress
October 01, 2008
Long-serving goalkeeper Brendan Cummins says the big challenge facing Tipperary in 2009 is to build on this year's progress.
Under new manager Liam Sheedy, Tipp won the Waterford Crystal, National League and Munster titles before losing their unbeaten record to Waterford in the All-Ireland semi-final.
"We need to carry it on, that's how we will be judged in 2009," the Ballybacon-Grange clubman said.
"I think a bit of inexperience cost us against Waterford. We had a five-week break before the Munster final and we kicked off well against Clare. Croke Park is a different arena and it's new to a lot of our lads at that level."
Cummins admitted to being envious of treble All-Ireland winners Kilkenny, adding: "Kilkenny have it all. They have the experience and the people coming in that have won at underage level. And they have Brian Cody at the helm cracking the whip."
