RGU club Notes The Seniors had a walk over on Friday night when Dundrum were unable to field. A valuable two points but no doubting the boys would have preferred a competitive game. Due to IFC arrangements it is not clear when the next game will be. Outstanding are away games to the west of the county at Tullylish and Annclone with one remaining game at PTR against league leaders Bryansford. The club have been commended on the state of the upper pitch for the Minor B Final between Longstone and Carryduff. Well done to the field committee who have the grounds in excellent condition. The Under 10s are away to Warrenpoint this Saturday for an end f seaon blitz. All players are asked to be at the club for 8.15 ready to leave at 8.30. Everyone should bring warm clothing as well as a packed lunch and a bottle of water. For the month of October the U 8s training will be moved from Saturday to Friday night under the lights. Starting time is 6.30 and this should be a real novelty for the kids and all school children for P 1-4 are welcome The Under 13s also begin training this week under the lights with their sessions on Thursdays from 8-9.15pm. Again all year 8/9/10 boys are welcome. Lotto numbers are 15/20/22/28. An Riocht The Senior footballers played Rostrevor at Dunavil on Saturday and what an abject performance it was, offering little hope for the remaining three games. Having gone four nil behind An Riocht did well to get back on level terms before actually going one point up but with Reds backs allowed waltz out of defence unchallenged by our forwards and our defenders failing to land a tackle in our half, we were soon in trouble again and trailed 2-7 to 1-6 at the break. Despite scoring first on the restart the lack of urgency in our play actually worsened in the second half and with possession cheaply given away Rostrevor ran through for a series of simple scores finishing 4-13 to 1-11 winners in a game which resembled a cross between a training session and a sevens competition. Scorers D O'Reilly 1-0, J Colgan 0-4, J Clarke 0-2, J Cunningham 0-2, K McVeigh 0-1, P Cole 0-1, C Killen 0-1. The U14 Camogie League Final between An Riocht and Portaferry took place on Sunday. Well done to the girls and team mentors on a great victory 0-9 to 0-8. REPORT TO FOLLOW. The Minor (U18) camogie team is still awaiting details of their League and Championship finals. A competition that began way back at Easter and consisted of only a handful of games should not be still unresolved in October. A dispute in the Ards is being allowed delay both finals. * The Junior camogs will play Dunloy away in the first round of the Ulster championship on 12th October. * 'K Factor' coming on 8th & 22nd November and 6th December. Anyone interested in participating contact Ray on 07731936078 or Danielle on 07732878204. * Junior Scor will be happening in October and recently this is an area where the club has not lived up to its responsibilities. Efforts are being made to ensure An Riocht is represented at Junior and Senior Scor so if anyone out there can sing, play a musical instrument, dance, or be a part of a quiz team then please contact the club. * Places are filling up for the camogie and football Foundation coaching courses to take place at Dunavil in October. The course content includes: What is first -aid? Basic principles of first-aid, vital signs, accident procedures, first-aid kits, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) & (b) Child Protection Awareness for aged 18+ to encourage good practice by focusing on codes of behaviour, signs and symptoms, dealing with concerns etc. * Kingdom YC was well represented at the meeting to discuss the establishment of a Mourne Youth Forum. There will be a follow up in two weeks. Down U14 Camogie League Final Report An Riocht 2-3 Portaferry 2-2 An Riocht U14 camogs ended their season on a high with joyful celebrations at Castlewellan after an exciting match. Nicole Kelly opened the scoring ten minutes into the first half with a pointed free. This was followed by Portafery forcing home the first goal of the game but An Riocht hit back almost immediately when Nicole soloed through to strike the net with a low shot. There followed a period in the game when defences were on top but eventually Portaferry got in for their second goal but again Nicole responded, this time with a goal direct from a free and at the break An Riocht led 2-2 to 2-1, Nicole having contributed all An Riochts scores. On the restart scores were hard come by. Portaferry had early chances but Tara Bowater was in outstanding form in the An Riocht nets. However the Ards team did draw level with their only point of the second half. An Riocht were struggling to turn possession into scores but with time almost up Orla McAlinden fired the ball over the bar for the winning score. Team: Tara Bowater Crystal McLoughlin Maria Higgins Ciara White Beth Farrell Lauren Cunningham Michelle O Neill Nicole Kelly Noelle Fearon Ellie Hughes Orla McAlinden Tierna Rooney Orla Doyle Sarah Carvill Laura Carvill Charlene White Michaela McDowell Aoife Mooney Claire Connor Nicole Cunningham. * This Sunday An Riocht travel to Ballygalget for the U16 League semi-final leaving Dunavil 10.30am for a 12pm throw-in.
