September 26, 2008
Gavin Corrigan has admitted that he is happy to be officiating Sunday's Down SFC final between Mayobridge and Loughisland at Pairc Esler. Corrigan last refereed his native county's SFC decider in 2006 when Mayobridge overcame Burren to capture the title. Coming into his tenth year in refereeing, the Castlewellan whistle-blower has most recently took charge of some McKenna Cup games earlier in the year and the Ulster Minor League final. "I always do my best to keep my mistakes to a minimum and I generally enjoy refereeing," Corrigan told the Mourne Observer newspaper. . "Regardless of what some people say, I have made more friends than enemies during my career so far. "My greatest satisfaction is when the manager of the beaten team tells me I did a good job." He added: "I'll be very happy if no one mentions my name on Sunday evening and the main topic of conversation is the actual performances of the two teams."
