Martin to apply for Donegal post

September 23, 2008
Outgoing Donegal football selector Francie Martin has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant manager's post in the county. Martin, who was a selector to Brian McIver for the past two years, has confirmed his interest in succeeding the Ardboe native, who stepped down a few weeks ago after a number of clubs had expressed disquiet at his reappointment. Martin becomes only the second candidate - after former county star John Joe Doherty - to officially declare his interest in the post. "I am definitely putting in for it," said Martin, who is currently in charge of Glenswilly. "I have given it a lot of thought and I have to say that it would be a great honour to manage Donegal. It is a big job, but I am all set to give it a shot."
