U16A hurling Final
September 22, 2008
Tooreen 0-11
Castlebar 2-3
Tooreen regained the U16A hurling championship with a spirited two point win over rivals Castlebar Mitchels in Claremorris.
The diminutive Shane Boland was Tooreen's hero on the day, as recorded nine points of his sides total - seven of which came from placed balls. The first half took a long time to settle but Tooreen shaded it going in at the break with a 0-5 to 0-1 lead. Castlebar failed to take advantage of their superior physique with their only point of the opening half coming courtesy of Darragh O'Malley.
The Mitchel's eventually got going early in the second half with a brace of goals from Richard O'Dea and Keith Fehilly. But it was Bolands points, coupled with other Tooreen white flags from Conor Henry and Colin Finn which brought the U16A title back to East Mayo.
Tooreen will now represent Mayo in the Connacht U16 Club championship in the coming weeks.
Tooreen Scorers: Shane Boland 0-9 (0-7), Conor Henry 0-1, Colin Finn 0-1. Castlebar Scorers: Richard O'Dea 1-0, Keith Fehilly 1-0, Darragh O'Malley 0-1, Damian McHale 0-1, Nathan O'Malley 0-1.
