Carr proud of his players

Tipperary under 21 hurling manager Declan Carr said he was proud of his players, despite their defeat to Kilkenny in last Sunday's All-Ireland final. "We settled into the game well, but it was so frustrating to find ourselves trailing 2-7 to 0-5 (after 31 minutes). Kilkenny's second goal was a real killer blow and left us with an awful lot to do," he said. "But I was very proud of the way our lads fought back. They showed great character and we were really in with a great chance when we pulled it back to two points. But we needed more scores from play. "We didn't get the breaks today. We badly wanted a goal, and Seamus Callinan was in hard luck not to finish his chance. A goal at that stage would have been some boost. We had another great chance in the dying minutes when Patrick Maher ran through for a goal, and in my view it was a penalty, but we didn't get it. "Some days you get them, some days you don't. Maybe it was not meant to be our day. We didn't score enough from play. You need to score freely in order to win an All-Ireland and we relied heavily on Pa Bourke's frees."
