TIPPERARY GAA SCENE BY COUNTY PRO ED DONNELLY ALL-IRELAND UNDER 21 HURLING FINAL Hard luck to the Tipperary Under 21 Hurlers who lost out to Kilkenny by 2-13 to 0-15 in last Sunday's All-Ireland Final. With 14 of the 19 players on view still underage next season, we hope they will go one better in 2009. Thanks to all of the players, backroom team and management for their efforts this season. COUNTY SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP The remaining six places in the County Senior Hurling Championship Quarter-Finals will be decided this weekend with some exciting games in prospect. On Saturday, there are two sets of double-headers in Dundrum and The Ragg respectively. In Dundrum, Thurles Sarsfields will play Golden-Kilfeacle at 3:00pm while at 4:30pm. Drom & Inch take on Ballybacon-Grange. In the Ragg, Clonoulty-Rossmore play Roscrea at 3:00pm while at 4:30pm, Kildangan take on Moycarkey-Borris. On Sunday, there are two local derbies of interest. At 2:00pm in MacDonagh Park Nenagh, Toomevara will play Burgess while at 5:00pm in Fethard, Mullinahone take on Ballingarry. Extra time will be played if required in this round of the championship and also in the County Senior Hurling Quarter-Finals. There will be one match programme to cover all of these games. Any supporter who purchased a programme at last weekend's Senior Hurling matches can bring this same programme for any of next weekend's Senior Hurling fixtures as all team line-outs are included. QUARTER-FINAL DRAWS The draws for the County Senior Hurling and Senior Football Championship Quarter-Finals were made at last Monday's CCC meeting in Thurles. All four Senior Hurling Quarter-Finals will take place at Semple Stadium on the weekend of September 27th / 28th as two attractive double-headers. On Saturday September 27th, defending champions Loughmore-Castleiney will play Cappawhite at 4:30pm while the winners of the Ballingarry vs. Mullinahone play the winners of Clonoulty-Rossmore vs. Roscrea is due to start at 3:00pm. On Sunday September 28th, the winners of Kildangan vs. Moycarkey-Borris will play the winners of Burgess vs. Toomevara at 3:00pm. Finally, the winners of Thurles Sarsfields vs. Golden-Kilfeacle take on the winners of Drom & Inch vs. Ballybacon-Grange with a throw-in time planned for 4:30pm. In Senior Football, there will be three Quarter-Finals as defending champions Moyle Rovers have received a bye to the County Semi-Final thanks to winning the South Final recently and qualifying through the County stages of the Championship earlier this year. The Quarter-Final fixtures are as follows - Cahir vs. Loughmore-Castleiney in Boherlahan on this Saturday September 20th at 5:00pm; Galtee Rovers or Eire Og Annacarty vs. Thomas MacDonaghs or Fr. John Kenyons in Drombane on Sunday next September 21st at 1:00pm; Aherlow vs. Clonmel Commercials in Cahir on Saturday week September 27th at 5:00pm. SEAMUS O RIAIN CUP SEMI-FINALS The semi-finals of the Seamus O Riain Cup will take place over the next two weekends. In Littleton on Saturday next at 4:00pm, Moneygall will take on Carrick Swan while on Saturday week, Upperchurch-Drombane play Kilruane MacDonaghs in Templemore at 4:00m. Extra time will be played in both semi-finals if required. COUNTY MINOR "C" HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL Lattin-Cullen defeated Moneygall by 1-15 to 0-8 in the County Minor "C" Hurling Championship Final on Saturday evening at Ballycahill. Afterwards, Michael Kirby collected the trophy from County Chairman John Costigan and County Treasurer and fellow Lattin-Cullen club-mate Eamonn Buckley. This grade commenced in 1999 and the list of winning captains to date is as follows - 1999 - Clonakenny (Gearoid Byrne), 2000 - Lorrha-Dorrha (Thomas Lambe), 2001 - Borrisokane (Graham McMahon), 2002 - Shannon Rovers (Roy Darcy), 2003 - Sean Treacys (Seamus Carey), 2004 - Skeheenarinky (Michael Crotty), 2005 - Clonakenny (Peadar Byrne), 2006 - Clonakenny (Donal Greed), 2007 - Ballinahinch (James Young), 2008 - Lattin-Cullen (Michael Kirby). COUNTY BOARD MEETING The next meeting of the Tipperary County Board will be held at the Sarsfields Social Centre, Thurles on Tuesday next, September 23rd at 8:00pm. The agenda and the minutes of the last meeting will be sent via e-mail to all clubs in advance. All clubs are asked to ensure their delegates receive this information prior to the meeting. TIPPERARY GAA MEMBERS DRAW 2008 / 2009 The Sean Treacys GAA club hosted the Tipperary GAA Members Draw for September on Friday evening last at McCormack's Bar, Kilcommon. Tim & Sheila Delaney from the Borris-Ileigh club won a car or ?15,000 while John Murphy from the Clerihan club won a car or ?12,000. The Aherlow GAA club won the sets of jerseys while there was no winner of the Lotto jackpot of 5,000 euro. A full list of the winners on the night can be found elsewhere on this week's paper. The October draw will take place on Friday, October 3rd in Borrisoleigh at a venue to be confirmed. MUNSTER COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT GRANTS Friday September 19th is the deadline for Tipperary clubs who intend to apply for grant aid from the Munster Council for 2008. Clubs are asked to send their submissions to County Development Officer Sean Nugent by this date in order that they can be assessed and approved by the Development Committee. Application forms for Purchase Grant, Dressing Room Grant or Development Grant plus associated guidelines can be accessed from the Munster Council website at http://munster.gaa.ie. HOST VENUE GUIDELINES To help improve the presentation of our club games in Tipperary, the Communications Committee has compiled a list of guidelines for a host club to follow when staging a game. These guidelines may act as a checklist for a club to ensure that everything is in place in advance of the staging of a match. All venues will be monitored to ensure that the guidelines are followed. The objective is to enhance the presentation of our games and to improve the customer experience for our supporters. These guidelines will apply for the rest of 2008 for all County Senior Hurling and Football Championship matches as well as for all County Championship Finals (from Minor up to Senior level). POST-PRIMARY SCHOOLS FIRST YEAR HURLING COMPETITION The draws for the Tipperary Post-Primary Schools First Year Hurling competition took place at the recent Post-Primary Schools AGM. There are eight schools involved in the "A" Hurling grade splits in to two groups as follows - Group 1 - Thurles CBS vs. Colaiste Phobal Roscre; Cashel Community School vs. High School Clonmel; Group 2 - Thurles CBS "2" vs. Abbey CBS; Nenagh CBS vs. Our Ladys Templemore. In the "B" Hurling grade, there are twelve schools involved split in to two groups of six as follows - Group 1 - Borrisokane Community College vs. Cistercian Roscrea; Comeragh College vs. St. Ailbes; St. Josephs Borrisoleigh vs. Presentation Ballingarry; Group 2 - St. Marys Newport vs. Thurles Vocational School; Scoil Ruain vs. Colaiste Dun Iascaigh Cahir; Nenagh Vocational School vs. Carrick-on-Suir CBS. SPECIAL CONGRESS It has been confirmed that a Special Congress will take place in Croke Park on October 4th 2008 to consider issues related to the introduction of a new electronic player and general membership system, proposals in regard to a revised Hurling Championship structure, Disciplinary Playing rules proposals and further recommendations of the Player Burnout Task Force. ANNUAL CONGRESS 2009 The GAA have confirmed that the 2009 Annual Congress will take place in Cork on April 17th / 18th.
