WATTY GRAHAMS GAC GLEN NOTES.
The Under13's played their first fixture against near neighbours Slaughtneil last Monday night in horrible condition at Watty Graham Park. Glen played with the wind at their backs in the opening period and totally dominated proceedings, restricting the visitors to one point as Glen fired over points from Stevie O'Hara, Cathir Glass, Danny Tallon, and Tiernan Flanagan. Half time score Glen 0-10 Slaughtneil 0-01. After the break however Slaughtneil fired two quick goals to the Glen net, reducing the deficit to 3 points. However Glen refused to panic and responded with points from Danny Tallon and Stevie O'Hara. In the final minutes Tiernan Flanagan found the Slaughtneil net to leave the final score Glen 1-13 Slaughtneil 2-03. Team and scorers Ciaran McCloy, Karl Quinn, Tomas Convery, Conor Class, Cahir McCabe, Paul Gunning, Cathal Mulholland, Stevie O'Hara (0-05), Conor McDevitt (0-01), Oisin Hegarty(0-01), Karl Webb, Danny Tallon (0-02), Tiernan Flanagan (1-01), Cahir Glass (0-03) and David Young. Subs used Conor Convery, Michael Bryson and Philip O'Kane.
The minor team played Lavey in the Championship semi final on Thursday night at Celtic Park. Glen got off to a great start when a speculative shot from full forward Dean Bradley was misjudged by the Lavey goalkeeper and ended up in the back of the Lavey net. This was soon followed by a point from Conlan Bradley. Lavey soon drew level when they grabbed a goal of their own which was also followed by two points. Lavey went further in front when they converted a rather dubious penalty, giving keeper Barry Hampson no chance. Both teams were then reduced to fourteen men when Glen's Dean Bradley and a Lavey player were red carded after a bout of over zealous refereeing. Glen were guilty of squandering several good scoring chances and went into the half time interval trailing on a scoreline of 2-03 to 1-01. Upon the restart Glen were a transformed team and constantly applied pressure on the Lavey defence. Andrew Warnock and Seanie McGroogan were winning the midfield battle and the Lavey attack was kept at bay with the Glen fullback line of Conor McWilliams, Joe Bradley and Owen McCusker outstanding. The introduction of Michael Warnock added an injection of pace to the Glen attack and they subsequently added points from Conlan Bradley and Ronan Moohan before Enda Bradley rattled the Lavey net, to get back on level terms. Ronan Moohan pointed two free kicks before Lavey responded with further points. With full time rapidly approaching Enda Bradley then got on the end of a good Glen attack to fire to the Lavey net. Lavey responded with a point but with the game deep in injury time the game looked secure. However in what turned out to be the last attack of the game, a high ball was launched into the Glen defence, the ball broke to a Lavey attacker and he shot high to the Glen net to leave Lavey winners on a scoreline of 3-07 to 3-06. The team and management will be deeply disappointed to lose this game after their brilliant second half performance; they should take great heart from the tremendous progress they have achieved this year. Team and scorers: Barry Hampson, Conor McWilliams, Joe Bradley, Owen McCusker, Nathan Deery, Dominic Carville, Enda Bradley (2-00), Seanie McGroogan, Andrew Warnock (0-01), Paul McLaughlin, Ronan Moohan (0-03), Conlan Bradley (0-02), Damian Maguire, Dean Bradley (1-01) & Mark Cudden. Sub used Matt O'Kane & Michael Warnock.
