Leinster mini hurling Feile a great success
September 15, 2008
Last Saturday, 13th September was a record breaking day for juvenile hurling in Wicklow. Seven venues throughout the county proudly played host to a total of 56 hurling clubs from around Leinster and the other provinces in an U-13 Mini Hurling Feile. The event was organised and co-ordinated by Leinster Hurling Development Administrator, Michael Neary. The host clubs were Bray Emmets; Carnew Emmets; Glenealy; Arklow Rocks; Kilcoole; Eire Og Greystones and St. Nicholas, Dunlavin. These clubs put in a huge amount of effort over the last couple of months to ensure that this project was a fantastic success. The glorious sunshine on Saturday added significantly to a wonderful day. It was a joy to see the many colours of the visiting teams parade their skills, enthusiasm and good sportsmanship throughout the day. Every team played four games of hurling and for all the players involved this was a great opportunity to play against different opposition and styles and to develop their hurling skills.
Eight teams participated at each of the seeded venues. The overall winners were as follows - Div. 1 (in Bray) winners Portlaoise (Laois); Div. 2 (in Carnew) winners Roanmore (Waterford); Div. 3 (in Glenealy) winners Tramore (Waterford); Div. 4 (in Arklow) winners St. Martin's (Meath); Div. 5 (in Kilcoole) winners Maynooth (Kildare); Div. 6 (in Greystones) winners Eire Og, Greystones; Div. 7 (in Dunlavin) winners (Termifeckin (Louth).
Sincere gratitude to the seven host clubs; to all the visiting clubs and particularly to the sponsors who all contributed in making the Mini Hurling Feile a tremendous success.
The sponsors were Leinster Games Development; Fiona & Joe Mallick Bus Hire Service, Tinahely; Eamonn Esmonde, Glenealy; Pat Casey and The Glendalough Hotel; The Copper Kettle, Kilcoole; KC Leisure & Marketing Limited, Mullingar and O'Neills Sportswear.
