Hanley would relish Ireland chance
September 11, 2008
Pearce Hanley has revealed that he would love to be apart of Sean Boylan's plans for this year's International Rules series in Australia.
The former Mayo ace has been playing his football with AFL side Brisbane Lions since last November, but believes the chance to represent his country in the hybrid game next month would be a 'great honour'.
"Yes, I'd love to be considered for selection for the International Series games," said Hanley.
"It's a great honour to represent your country, and the fact that I now have experience of playing Aussie Rules could be a help in the compromise game.
Hanley got the go ahead from Brisbane Lions to play for his native club Ballaghaderren while at home on the off-season, but intends to establish himself on the Lions first team when he returns back 'Down Under' pre-season training.
"I told them that playing for Ballaghaderren would help to keep me fit while I was back in Ireland, and they okayed that," he explained.
"My ambition is to establish myself as a regular on the Premiership team next year.
"I did quite well in the two games I played in, and I can make an additional case for myself by showing up well in pre-season training."
