Great news for Brídíní Óga Camogie club

September 08, 2008
Since the foundation of Brídíní Óga Camogie club in 2001, trips to Croke Park for the All-Ireland Camogie finals have been an annual event. Next Sunday (14th September) however the Croke Park trip will be different for the small club that caters for the parishes of Glenravel and Cloughmills in north Antrim. After applying for tickets for the under 12 panel to travel, club officials were stunned last week when they received an invitation to take part in the on-field activities. 10 girls from the panel will form the guard of honour for the teams as they take to the Croke Park pitch for the show-piece event of the Camogie year. They will play in the mini-games at half time and will also meet the President of Ireland. Club official Siobhán Donnelly said : "We are still in shock over the invitation. Over the years, these trips to Croke Park have been something the players looked forward to.  But to actually have some of our youngsters play on the pitch and take part in the whole event that is Camogie Sunday that will really be something special." Usually a treat for clubs in the Dublin area, this is the first time a club from Ulster has been invited to participate at this level, and the Brídíní Óga girls have been boosted at the weekend when Erin Campbell presented under 12 mentor Monica Duffin with a set of jerseys on behalf of her father Hugh A Campbell (HAC).
