Fleury coy over Limerick nomination

August 29, 2008

Pat Fluery as Offaly manager
Ex-Offaly boss Pat Fleury has stayed reserved over his nomination to succeed Richie Bennis as the next Limerick senior hurling manager. Fleury is said to be one of ten candidates that have been nominated for the Treaty job, but the 1985 All-Ireland winner admitted that he had no knowledge of his name being in the frame for the position. "The first I heard of it (his nomination) was when a pal mentioned it to me earlier this week," he admitted. "I suppose in a way it's another example of the way that the GAA manages it's affairs. Asked whether or not he would allow his name to go forward for the position, Fleury replied: "I'd like to find out more about the situation before I'd say anything about it." Fleury has been based in Limerick city for the past 30 years as a teacher and would almost certainly be aware of the ins and outs of the Treaty County's GAA circles.
