Derrylaughan Kevin Barry's Notes

August 25, 2008
SENIOR/RESERVE FOOTBALL There will be no club football this weekend owing to the county teams participation in the All-Ireland semi-finals on Sunday. The club would like to wish both senior and minor panels the very best of luck in their bids to make it through once more to the showpiece event of the GAA calendar on 21st September. In particular, good luck to Ciaran who will be representing the club against Meath. The Seniors had a useful run-out against Ardboe on Sunday and training. TICKETS Tickets for the games on Sunday will be distributed after training on Tuesday night (approx 9:30pm).continues on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 8pm. YOUTH After coming out on the wrong end of some tight tussles recently the U16s got their season back on track in impressive fashion when travelling to Augher and defeating the hosts on a 3-11 to 3-8 scoreline. They will have to up it again though when they play at home to Errigal Ciaran on Wednesday night (throw-in 7:15pm). They finish the league stages at home to Clonoe on Wednesday 3rd September (throw-in 7pm). They will also meet their parish rivals in the championship on the following Saturday. SUMMER CAMP The annual summer camp was held last week at the shore and was a great success for all involved. For four glorious sun soaked days, the boys and girls were treated to some excellent coaching and the club would like to thank all involved in the preparation and running of the event. GERARD QUINN MEMORIAL CUP In contrast, the Gerard Quinn Cup was played off in torrential conditions on Saturday at the shore but was a fantastic day nonetheless. The young Barry's played some quality football throughout but just came up short when losing to eventual winners Scotstown by the smallest of margins. Well done to them and to Bellaghy who took home the shield. Again, many thanks to all who helped out in various ways on the day to make it the success it was. OVER 35'S There will be an over 35 tournament in Carrickmore coming up shortly and anyone interested is asked to contact Damian McLernon. TORONTO The club sends out a large delegation to Toronto this week in what should be a wonderful trip for all involved. The Barry's will take part in the Powerscreen International 7's Gold Watch Tournament at Centennial Park in Etobicoke, Ontario on 30th/31st August and will face teams from the Cayman Islands and Cleveland along with clubs from Toronto. A safe journey is wished to all making the trip. LOTTO Congratulations to Declan Brady who has now offered to buy the first round of drinks in Toronto after guessing 3 correct numbers in the lotto along with Katie McLaughlin (Derryvarn) and pulling in a handy £25 each. Declan was so close with his well thought out guess of 1,2,3,4 but unfortunately the numbers drawn for Sunday 24th August were 1,2,3 & 8. The jackpot survived and now rises to £1,750.
