ST. KILLIAN'S GAC WHITECROSS NOTES
WHITECROSS BEAT PEARSE OG TO GAIN TWO PRECIOUS LEAGUE
POINTS
Whitecross 2-17
Pearse Og 3-12
Whitecross gained another two precious Division One Armagh All-County League points on Sunday when they defeated visiting Pearse Og at Pairc Naomh Cillian.
This turned out to be a high-scoring game with Whitecross just about deserving to win having led by a solitary point at the interval. This was despite some poor shooting which yielded no less than eleven wides during the first period.
At the half-time break the homesters led by 1-7 to 2-3 with the Whitecross goal coming from a speculative lob from wing back Niall Boyle, in injury time, which deceived Ciaran McKinney in the Pearse Og goal and ended up in the net.
The two Pearse Og 'majors' were scored in the 22nd and 27th minutes and brought them back into this game as Whitecross continued to spurn good opportunities until Niall Boyle found a way through and just before the referee called a halt to the first half Barry Og McKeown was fouled and spotting P McGuinness was unmarked he took a quick free and McGuinness fisted the ball over the bar to put Whitecross back into the lead.
Whatever was said by the management in the Whitecross dressing room at the interval had the desired effect as they only had one wide during the second half-hour.
After eight minutes Whitecross, with their accuracy showing much improvement, scored points from Conor Malone, Michael Kennedy, Niall Boyle and Barry Og McKeown and a Michael Kennedy goal when he was alert to a fisted scoring attempt from Barry Og McKeown which struck the post by collecting the rebound and sliding the ball to the Pearse Og net to give the homesters an eight point lead.
Visiting Pearse Og then began a great fightback and by the 20th minute they had got back onto level terms.
Barry Og McKeown then edged Whitecross back into the lead with two points - one from play and the other from a free kick - but the Armagh City side responded with two points from play in the 25th and 25 minutes.
Two Colm O'Hanlon free kicks and point from play from substitute, Conor Malone, opened up a three point lead for the St Killian's men going into 'injury time' but Pearse Og scored a point from a free kick and almost had a goal but Whitecross held out to win by a two point margin and were mighty relieved to hear the final shrill of Seamus O'Neill's whistle.
Scorers for Whitecross were Barry Og McKeown (0-6), Niall Boyle (1-1), Michael Kennedy (1-1), Colm O'Hanlon (0-4), P McGuinness (0-2), Conor Malone (0-2), and Cathal McSherry (0-1).

Substitutes were Conor Malone for Mark Shields, Martin O'Hanlon for Eamonn Reavey, Joe O'Callaghan for Dermot Boyle, Paul Mackin for Michael Kennedy and Niall Og Boyle for P McGuinness.
