Wicklow GAA are dealing with a number of issues within the county at the moment.

There are genuine concerns over the club scene in Wicklow as in the last couple of months, there have been clubs folding, another needing an EGM to try to sort its future and teams struggling to field 15 players for adult games.

One club that has been forced to give up the battle for survival is Bray based Fergal Ógs who have made the hard decision not to field this year due to a lack of numbers available.

The club has wrote to the Wicklow County Board urging them to allow their players transfer to other clubs, despite the transfer deadline having passed.

In games fixed for last weekend, both Donard and Knockananna had to field with 14 players in their respective match, while in another fixture, Coolboy handed the points to Kilcoole as they couldn't field a team.

This prompted the Coolboy committee to hold an EGM to discuss their future, which will be held this Thursday night.

One solution to teams unable to field is for them to amalgamate. Already this year, Lacken and Kilbride have gone down that route and it looks as if more may follow that lead.
