Laois and Leitrim will be playing their league football in Division 3 next year after wins in this afternoon’s final round of games earned them promotion.

Laois were ruthless in their 5-19 to 0-9 hammering of bottom placed Waterford in Carriganore, where the visitors hit the net four times in the opening half via Evan O’Carroll, Mark Barry (2) and Paul Kingston.

Promotion for the O’Moore men was all but secured by the time Rioghan Murphy netted their fifth goal six minutes into the restart and they now look forward to a league final date against Leitrim next weekend.

Andy Moran’s men were 0-15 to 0-9 winners over Tipperary in Carrick-on-Shannon as they earned their own return to Division 3 of the Allianz Football League.

The steady free-taking of Darragh Rooney helped the hosts edge a 0-7 to 0-6 lead at the halfway stage and, after the change of ends, the points of Ryan O’Rourke, Rooney and Aidan Flynn would coast them five clear and they’d win out by six in the end to cement promotion.

In Chadwicks Wexford Park, Wexford scored a 2-18 to 2-9 victory over Longford but, despite finishing on an equal number of points and a superior score difference, the Model men’s late loss to Leitrim in Round 3 sees them missing out on promotion as a result of the head-to-head rule.

Elsewhere, Carlow concluded their league campaign with a fourth win by handing London a 1-17 to 1-10 defeat at Netwatch Cullen Park, where the inform Colm Hulton bagged the victors’ goal.
