Wexford manager Keith Rossiter cut a contented figure after his side assured themselves of a place in next year’s Allianz Hurling League top-flight with victory over Waterford.

The win in Walsh Park maintained Wexford’s unbeaten run in Division 1A, while condemning their south-east neighbours to the second tier next year.

"It was massive, it keeps us fighting into the last round of the league," Rossiter told RTÉ's Sunday Sport.

"We've Cork in Wexford Park next week so it was either us or Waterford that was going to be on the back foot after this. Delighted to come out on top. In fairness to Waterford they could have put us out of sight after 15 minutes when it was 0-6 to 0-1. But we got to grips with it, we settled... there was a lot at stake today.

"There was that, 'stay in the hunt for Division One status' [idea]. That was there today and both teams knew about that. That was playing on our minds.

"Waterford had home advantage and had to put in a performance as well so I'm delighted the lads came out after half time and put in a massive performance and we got the result."
