Joe Canning says Wexford cannot expect to win big games without a consistent free-taker.

Following regular free-taker Lee Chin’s early departure in last Sunday’s drawn Allianz Hurling League Division 1A encounter with Clare, goalkeeper Mark Fanning and man of the match Seamus Casey both missed late frees which would have given the Model County the win.

"It’s something that has been bugging them down through the years," the former Galway sharpshooter said on RTÉ's Allianz League Sunday.

"At inter-county, it’s fine margins that make the difference between winning and losing. In those situations, missing a free that is scoreable at this level to win a game comes back when you get into championship.

"They are not too worried about a league game, but if that’s championship down the line, and you’re missing by a point, it’s those fine margins."
