Cork held on against Waterford to secure their first points in this year’s Allianz Hurling League Division 1 Group A campaign with a 1-21 to 1-19 at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

Patrick Horgan and Jack O’Connor combined for 1-10 over the 70 minutes, with the latter’s goal surging the Rebels into a nine-point lead with 50 minutes on the clock.

Waterford battled back from there with points from Michael Kiely, Calum Lyons, Conor Sheahan and Jamie Barron, but they’d end up in vain as the hosts were able to see out the crucial win.

Kilkenny recorded their second win by blitzing Offaly in the second-half and eventually handing them a 1-26 to 1-19 defeat at Nowlan Park.

The visitors’ superb start saw Eoghan Cahill sending over scores that led them towards a 0-7 to 0-2 lead after 15 minutes and they hold a six-point advantage come the break.

The Cats got motoring after the turnaround however and struck 10 points in the opening dozen minutes of the restart and a goal from Eoin Cody afterwards would help put the game to bed despite a major from Charlie Mitchell at the other end.

In Chadwicks Wexford Park, Jack O’Connor would come off the bench to earn a 1-13 to 0-16 draw for Wexford against Clare.

The substitute’s brilliant long range effort flew between the Banner men’s posts, denying them a third win after Mark Rodgers’s score beforehand looked like bagging them both points.

In Division 1 Group B, Henry Shefflin’s Galway side crushed Antrim by 2-35 to 1-13 at Corrigan Park to secure their second win of the campaign.

Evan Niland struck 0-13 for the Tribesmen, Jason Flynn netted both of their goals and Tom Monaghan and Conor Cooney combined for 0-10 as they eased to both points in west Belfast where the hosts slumped to their third defeat.
