Lough Lene Gaels needed a positive final quarter showing to overcome 17 times Westmeath SHAC title winners Clonkill, in this, a Round 4 Divisional phase fixture of the Slevins Coaches SHAC, played at Mullingar's TEG Cusack Park on Sunday evening August 31st. Played in damp, overcast and breezy weather conditions, Lough Lene Gaels led 0.08 to 0.05 at the midway point of the first half, although playing against a notable breeze. Clonkill dominated the second quarter of play, outscoring Lough Lene Gaels 0.07 to 0.01 in that phase of play.

Half time scoreline: Lough Lene Gaels 0.09 Clonkill 0.12. 

Clonkill had the edge in match scoring in the third quarter of play, scoring 1.03 to the 0.05 response in reply from Lough Lene Gaels, leaving the match scoreline at the midway point of the second half, Lough Lene Gaels 0.14 Clonkill 1.15. Lough Lene Gaels, playing their 310th fixture in this competition in its various forms and guises, since fixture No1 versus Delvin in July 1970, looked to be heading to a defeat and therefore needing a positive result in a forthcoming Round 5 fixture v Castlepollard to keep intact the ambitions of progression to the concluding phases of this competition. Lough Lene Gaels though then obtained all important scores in the closing quarter of this Round 4 Divisional phase fixture, emerging match winners by a one point margin. As a consequence of the results of the three Round 4 fixtures of this competition, Lough Lene Gaels, Castletown Geoghegan and Raharney have qualified for the knock out phase of the 2025 Slevins Coaches SHAC, with one Round Divisional phase fixtures still to play.
