JFC v Moate All-Whites

We completed our Junior 1 Football Championship group campaign with a comfortable 1-18 to 0-8 victory over Moate All-Whites in Shandonagh last Sunday afternoon.

While we were already assured of a quarter-final place, the result saw us finish top of Section B and thus play the fourth-placed team in Section A which is Athlone. That game is due to be played as the second part of a double-header with the St Joseph’s v The Downs quarter-final in Moate next Sunday afternoon.

A late Shaun Pidgeon goal added gloss to the scoreline on a day when we welcomed back Niall Carey and Darragh Coffey from their summer travels, and Nigel Scally from a cruciate ligament injury he sustained over a year ago. All three got on the scoresheet along with Cathal Finn, Paul Fennell, Micheál Coffey, Conor Delaney, Danny Scully and Pidgeon.

We led by double-scores, 0-10 to 0-5, at half-time before gradually pulling clear in the second half.

Team: Joey O’Neill; Martin Ward, James Fox, Sean Hanlon; Colin Draper, Aidan Stone, Micheál Coffey; Brendan McMahon, Niall Carey; Paul Fennell, Shaun Pidgeon, Danny Scully; Cathal Finn, Conor Delaney, James Finnegan. Subs used: Nigel Scally, Dean Fitzgerald, Darragh Coffey, David Fennell and Alan Fennell.

Gaelic4Mothers&Others

History was made last Tuesday evening in Rochfortbridge when our newly-formed Gaelic4Mothers&Others team played their first game against the host club, St Mary’s.

The ladies gave a brilliant account of themselves and were back in action on Saturday afternoon when they took part in a blitz in Clara. Thanks to Clara for facilitating the blitz and for the refreshments afterwards.

These games will act as great preparation for our participation in the Sports Direct National Gaelic4Mothers&Others National Blitz Day which is being jointly hosted by the Naomh Mearnóg and St Sylvester’s clubs in Dublin on Saturday, September 16.

Super Go Games blitz

Well done to our U9 boys who made their TEG Cusack Park debuts in last week’s Super Go Games blitz. No doubt, it will be the first appearance of many for these lads at Westmeath GAA HQ.

Lotto

Last week’s lucky numbers were 2, 3, 8 and 13. Kelly Ann Mealiffe and Michael Ennis were the Match 3 winners. Thanks to everyone for their support. The jackpot is capped at €15,000. You can purchase your tickets in local shops or online.
