Community Pitch Re-Opens!
Saturday 19th August will live long in the memory of those present at the Horseleap Streamstown Community field as the revamped playing pitch was reopened after the comprehensive redevelopments which have produced an outstanding new facility.
With the pitch closed since April 2021, it is great t finally see games back in the locality. Fr Joe Deegan PP carried out the official opening by cutting the ribbon before a very large an enthusiastic crowd. The day consisted of a series of games of all age groups from St Josephs GAA and St Josephs LGFA along with a showing of the Oscars night from last October. While the pitch has reopened, access will be relatively limited until next season as all new pitches need time to bed in.
Junior Football Championship:
We played neighbours Kilbeggan Shamrocks on Friday 11th August in Castledaly and honours were even as the match ended in a 1-12 apiece draw. An exciting and well contested game saw us come from eight points down to lead as the game headed to a conclusion only for an equalising free from Shamrosks saw the teams share the points. This leaves St Josephs on five points with the final round to come against St Pauls next weekend. That game is due to be in Ballynacargy on Sunday 27th August with a 1-45pm throw in.
Successful week at Underage level:
Our teams at Under 17 and Under 13 level had good weeks with wins in their respective games. The Under 17 combination of Esker Gaels had too much in hand for St Michaels on Monday 14th August in Tang winning by 3-19 to 1-10 to get back into contention in the championship. On Friday 18th august our Under 13’s had a first home match in a long time at the new pitch and came out winners against Tyrrrellspass by 4-16 to 2-06. The under 15’s were due to play Kilbeggan Shamrocks on Wednesday evening but the game was postponed.
Ladies draw in IFC:
St Josephs Ladies Intermediate team had an exciting draw against Coralstown Kinnegad on Thursday 17th August in Kinnegad scoring 2-09 against 4-03 for our opponents. St Josephs came from 10 points down to draw the game and gain a first point on the table after two games. The Ladies lost narrowly to Caulry the previous week by 3-06 to 1-09 so needed a positive result to keep on track in what seems to be a very competitive championship. St Josephs Under 14 girls also played the same evening at the Community field having the honour of having the opening game on the new pitch and they were successful against Mullingar Shamrocks.
