Division 5 v Multyfarnham

On a weekend when our first team’s All-County League Division 3 game against Mullingar Shamrocks was postponed due to the inclement weather, our seconds chalked up their second win in Division 5 at home to Multyfarnham last Sunday morning.

First half goals from Cathal Finn (two) and James Finnegan laid the foundations for a 3-9 to 2-8 victory in difficult conditions. With Finn, Finnegan and Sean Hanlon getting on the scoresheet, we took a 3-1 to 1-5 lead into the break, but only after Multy had blazed a penalty wide on the stroke of half-time.

We played some great football after the restart when a flurry of points from Darragh Coffey (two), Finn (two), Niall Carey, Micheál Coffey and Joey O’Neill extended our lead to 3-8 to 1-8. Multy got a goal back to leave it a one-score game before the accurate Finn fired over the insurance point after Mark Sonner had made a crucial save at the other end.

Team: Mark Sonner; Senan Claffey, Ciaran Egan, Kieran Egan; Arthur O’Rourke, Colin Draper, Micheál Coffey; Joey O’Neill, Niall Carey; Mel Kiernan, Darragh Coffey, Rory O’Neill; James Finnegan, Cathal Finn, Sean Hanlon. Subs: Shane Gorry and Michael Joyce.
