Division 3 v Garrycastle

We continued our impressive start to the new season with a 1-12 to 2-7 All-County League Division 3 victory away to Garrycastle last Saturday afternoon.

A late James Finnegan goal made it three wins from three on a day when we were short several regulars. We also lost goalkeeper Brendan Nannery to injury just before half-time, but Joey O’Neill proved an able replacement. Garrycastle scored a goal from their first attack, but we recovered well to lead by 0-8 to 1-1 at half-time.

And while our Athlone-based opponents regained the lead in the second half, we finished strongly to claim two more League points with Martin Ward leading from the back.

Team: Brendan Nannery; Ciaran Egan, Alan Fennell, Martin Ward; Micheál Coffey, Brendan McMahon, Mel Kiernan; Niall Carey, Dean Fitzgerald (0-3); Danny Scully (0-2), Conor Delaney (0-3) Darragh Coffey (0-1); Cathal Finn, James Finnegan (1-0), David Fennell (0-3). Subs: Joey O’Neill, Cathal Maher, Michael Joyce, Finbarr Coffey, Shane Gorry, Arthur O’Rourke and Jack Mullins.

Division 5 v C-F/C/W

After a brilliant comeback win over St Paul’s seven days earlier, our second string made the long trip to Finea last Sunday morning where they were edged out by the home side on a 0-16 to 3-11 scoreline.

Arthur O’Rourke and Kyle McMahon made their adult team debuts as we pushed the Castletown-Finea/Coole/Whitehall first team all the way. A special well done once again to the lads who played the two games last weekend.

Team: Brendan McMahon; Kyle McMahon, Ciaran Egan, Martin Ward; Micheál Coffey, Colin Draper, Arthur O’Rourke; Dean Fitzgerald, Joey O’Neill; Cathal Maher, Conor Delaney, Michael Joyce; Shane Gorry, Darragh Coffey, Cathal Finn. Subs used: Rory O’Neill.

Last Man Standing

We have a winner! Congratulations to Daniel Kenny who won our 2023 National League Last Man Standing competition.

Going into last weekend’s National Football League Round 5 games, it was a two-horse race between Daniel and Mark Wrafter. However, while Galway and Westmeath both produced the goods for Daniel, Kerry let Mark down after losing to Tyrone. The €300 prize money will make its way to Daniel later in the week.

Thanks as always to Mel Kiernan for organising this annual fundraiser.

Underage training resumes

Our underage groups returned to training in large numbers on the Astroturf pitch last Saturday.

They will continue to train on Saturdays until the evenings get a bit brighter. For any queries on training times etc, pleased contract chairperson Martina on 087 637 0336 or secretary Sabrina on 085 101 6041.

Membership

Membership is now due for all age groups and can be paid on Foireann. Payment can also be made by cash to Shaun Pidgeon. Remember, if you're not a paid-up member, you're not insured to play.

Lotto

Last week’s lucky numbers were 4, 13, 21 and 24. There was no Match 3 or jackpot winner. Thanks to everyone for their support. The jackpot is capped at €15,000. You can purchase your tickets in local shops or online.

Condolences

We extend our sympathy to the McMahon, Doonan and Sheridan families on their recent bereavements.
