Limerick defender Kyle Hayes has accepted a one-match ban for catching Galway opponent Brian Concannon’s helmet during last weekend’s Allianz Hurling League clash in Salthill.
It means that the four-time All-Ireland winner will miss his side’s fourth round league clash against Westmeath in Mullingar on Sunday week.
Hayes escaped a red card in Salthill last Sunday despite already being on a yellow card when he flicked his hurl at Concannon’s helmet.
However, after reviewing the incident, the Central Competitions Control Committee imposed a one-match ban on the Kildimo-Pallaskenry clubman and it means he would also face a two-game suspension if he were to be sent off on a second Category III infraction this season.
