Condolences

The club extends its sympathy to the McCormack, McMahon and McLoughlin families who suffered bereavements over the Christmas period.

On December 21, we awoke to the sad news that Rose McCormack (nee McCaul) had passed away after a long illness borne bravely. Late of Main Street, Rose needed no introduction to anyone in Kilbeggan. She was a great supporter of our club and was proud to see her sons Paul, Alan and Mattie wear the maroon and white jersey. Mattie won an All-Ireland minor medal with Westmeath in 1995. Her other son Kenneth has resided in the US for many years.

She was an outstanding sportswoman herself, having enjoyed All-Ireland Pitch & Putt success with her late husband Jack, who she is now reunited with. Rose was inducted into the Westmeath Pitch & Putt Hall of Fame in 2018.

Another well-known local lady, Phil McMahon (nee Guilfoyle), went to eternal reward on Christmas Day after a brief illness. Late of Belmont, Phil’s youngest son Kenny played with us for a number of years, while she has grandchildren playing with our underage teams.

Further sad news followed on December 27 with the passing of Frank McLoughlin, late of Kilbeggan and Tullamore. Frank’s only son Damian has been a pillar of the club for many years as a player, administrator and coach. Damian managed us to JFC success in 2012 and was also part of the management when we regained the Hugh Daniels Cup in 2018.

May Rose, Phil and Frank rest in peace.

Birthday greetings

One of our biggest supporters, Sean Daly from Cornaher, celebrated his 90th birthday just before Christmas. Wishing you many more years of health and happiness, Sean!
