U16 Girls
Our U16 girls took to Cusack Park on glorious Saturday morning in their final against a fancied Tyrellspass team. In the final chapter of their 2021 championship the girls saved their best for last. The girls in blue got off to a cracking start and scored two goals and a brace of points in the first 10 mins. However Tyrellspass reacted strongly with 1-2 and only a fantastic save from the ever steady Lauren Power kept them at bay. The Shan girls settled and with a dominant back line grabbed the game by the scuff of the neck and scored 2 further goals to lead 4-4 to 1-4 at the half time.
With strong support from the stand and terraces, the girls came out with all guns blazing in the second half and made the most of the chances they created adding a multiple of goals and points resulting from well worked plays through our midfield and forwards. Strong teamwork led them to win the second half and the game outright. It was a joy to have representatives of the victorious Westmeath ladies team to present the player of the match award to our own Alysha Brown. This was a fabulous occasion for the girls to play in their county ground and they brought much joy to their club this year. We look forward to continued progress with these fine footballers.

Mens Senior Championship

Last Friday night the Shandonagh men's senior team took on Killucan in the fourth round of the Westmeath Senior Football Championship. A slow start by Shandonagh along with a clinical Killucan side resulted in 4 goals being conceded by Shandonagh in the first half. It wasn't for the lack of trying as the Shandonagh men just could not find their rhythm. Despite the goal difference Shandonagh never dropped the head and kept plugging away. More direct play and creativity in the second half led to Shandonagh mounting many more attacks but unfortunately the shots went wide and attempts on goal were just off target. Had luck favoured Shandonagh during this spell they would have been well in touch with Killucan towards the end of the game but it wasn't to be their day. Credit to Killucan for a blistering start that gave them the goals but well done to Shandonagh on a determined second half performance on an evening that just didn't go their way.

Full time score Shandonagh 1:09, Killucan 4:11

Mens Junior Championship
Our second men's team were out on Sunday evening last at home against Mullingar Shamrocks in the Junior 2 Football Championship. A bright sunny evening made for a very entertaining game of football with both teams starting well and matching each other with 5 points a piece at the first water break. When play resumed Shandonagh started to exert themselves and using the width of the pitch well added on the points to make the half time score Shandonagh 0:10, Mullingar Shamrocks 0:05. The second half was Shandonaghs as they settled into their rhythm scoring some fine points from play that were worked very well up the field. This was a fine team effort with all players and subs putting in the hard work both on and off the ball to get the result. Final score Shandonagh 1:18, Mullingar Shamrocks 1:07
