Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Notes

IFC v St Mary’s

We take on St Mary’s, Rochfortbridge in Round 4 of the Writech IFC in Ballinagore next Sunday at 11.30pm.

With two defeats and a draw from our first three games, a win is imperative if we’re to avoid a relegation showdown with Multyfarnham in the last round. Best of luck to all involved.

LGFA v St Paul’s / Delvin

Our ladies footballers secured their first win in the Buckley’s SuperValu Junior Championship when they overcame St Paul’s / Delvin by 3-8 to 2-8 in Clonmellon last Sunday.

First half goals from Laura Murphy (two) and Aine Pettit helped us to a 3-6 to 2-3 half-time lead, but the hosts scored the first four points of the second half to put us under real pressure. However, we outscored them by 0-2 to 0-1 in a tense final quarter to take the points.

The club would like to take this opportunity to wish our captain Mairead McCormack a full recovery from a season-ending ACL injury she sustained in a recent challenge match, and look forward to seeing her back in action again next year.

Team: Niamh Bouabbse; Jenny Barrett, Triona Durkan, Ellie Fitzpatrick; Aideen Pettit, Kim Cobbe, Anna Wrafter; Tara Dennehy, Lorraine Claffey (0-1); Jemma Seery (0-1), Laura Murphy (2-4), Roisin Curneen (0-1); Niamh Durkan (0-1), Aine Pettit (0-1), Sandra Garvin. Subs: Sabrina Jackson, Jill Draper, Aleisha Fitzgerald, Orla Brennan, Emily O’Brien, Aleesha Fuller, Katie Coffey, Lauren Wrafter and Morna Brady.

Padraig Hampsey

Congratulations to Padraig Hampsey on captaining Tyrone to All-Ireland football glory last Saturday evening. Padraig has three aunts and lots of cousins living in Kilbeggan, while his father Paul is a former Kilbeggan Shamrocks player.

Sympathy

The club was saddened to learn of the passing of Laurence (Larry) McCormack, late of Lower Main Street, Kilbeggan and Kill, Co. Kildare last week.

He was a talented goalkeeper in his youth and a brother of our former stalwart player and manager, Teddy McCormack, to whom we extend our deepest sympathy. Larry’s father Ned was a former chairman of Kilbeggan Shamrocks.

Condolences also to Larry's wife Ann, daughters Shirley and Laura, sister Breda and extended family. RIP.

Lotto

Last week’s lucky numbers were 14, 21, 25 and 28. Congratulations to the draw winners, Lil Gorman and Ann Smith.

Thanks to everyone for their support. This week’s jackpot is €5,300. The draw takes place every Tuesday at 8pm live on our Facebook page. You can purchase your tickets in local shops or online https://www.klubfunder.com/Clubs/Kilbeggan_Shamrocks
