St Malachys club notes

June 21, 2021

Congratulations
Congratulations to Cllr. Liam McDaniels on becoming Mayor of the Athlone/Moate municipal district. Liam puts a great deal of work into Lilliput Gaels and the underage development of the club.

Membership

Thanks to all who paid membership. If you are still to pay your membership it can be done so by Revolut to Alan Gallagher, or cash can be given to Pat Garvin or John Cassidy.

Bon Voyage & Best Wishes
As Natasha Miskell leaves Dysart NS and takes on a new adventure in Mullingar, we wish her every success in the future. Natasha has always put her hand up to help with the club, from coaching the underage to taking part in the Night in Hollywood fundraiser. Her enthusiasm and positive energy has brought such delight to the lives of those who were lucky to have her in them. Last week, St. Malachys made a presentation to Natasha on her departure from Dysart NS.  We hope Natasha will continue to be part of our community.

Birthday Wishes
We wish a big happy birthday to Martin Daly on his big 60th last week. Martin has done Trojan work within the club and the development of our new park to benefit all. His hard work behind the scenes, securing grants and preparing the complex development is greatly appreciated.

Junior B Championship.
(15th of June, 2021)
St. Malachy's 2 – 07      Killucan 3-06
We took part in the Junior B Championship for the first time in four years when we travelled to Killucan to take on the home side. With the majority of this panel having played 2 games over the previous 3 days our hopes were not high going into this encounter but the lads pulled out all the stops and were very unlucky not to come away with a win. Playing controlled posession football against the wind in the opening half  we more than held our own but the concession of a penalty late in the half left us trailing by two points at the interval. Wind assisted in the second half we took the game to Killucan and were well worth our two point lead going deep into injury time. A last gasp Killucan attack yielded a point and with time up all we had to do was kick the ball dead but from a turnover deep in their backline Killucan brought the ball the length of the field and despite a great save from Peter Dalton our opponents goaled from the rebound to win the game.Well done to the entire panel for an excellent display with special mention to the evergreen Alan Mangan who celebrated his 42nd birthday on the night and rolled back the years with his customary top class display. Alan turned out for our three games over the space of four days and is truely a great role model for the younger players coming through the ranks as he never lets his club or team mates down. Well done Alan.
