Brian Cody to Present Southern Gaels Under 16 Medals.
The legendary Kilkenny hurler and manager Brian Cody is to present the Southern Gaels Under 16 hurlers with their 2019 championship medals this Monday January 20th in Pairc Chiaráin Athlone GAA Centre at 7.30. Southern Gaels defied the odds to capture the Under 16 B Championship against Delvin on a score of 3-11 to 0-5 last October. In doing so they won the first title for the club at this level since 1989.
Brian Cody the renowned Kilkenny manager is the most successful hurling manager of all time. He is beginning his 23rd year as Kilkenny manager and in that time has guided the county to 11 All Ireland championship, 15 Leinster championships and 9 League titles. Cody had a successful playing career winning 3 All Ireland titles with Kilkenny and 2 All Ireland Club titles with his club James Stephens in addition to a minor and 2 Under 21 titles with the 'Cats'. So if there is anything hurling Brian Cody is the man both as a player and manager.
Brian will be an inspirational figure to the young Southern Gaels players as they pursue their hurling careers and look forward to a new year and new challenges on the playing field. The club are honored to have a man of his standing attend the presentation and look forward to having a large and enthusiastic attendance at the event. Obviously all who have an interest in hurling are welcome to attend this coming Monday for what should be a wonderful celebration.
Level 1 Coaching Course.
15 club members will attend a Level 1 Hurling Coaching course over the next two weeks. All these coaches have already done a Foundation course. This course will raise the level of coaching in the club and ensue there are highly qualified coaches with every club squad from the Under 6 Academy right up to adult level. This commitment should pay handsome dividends for the club as it plot future progress. There will be a Foundation Course later in the year for new coaches and it is hoped a number will attend this event when it is scheduled.
There is also a Referees course taking place in February and anyone interested should contact the club as soon as possible.
