Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Notes

The late Richard (Richie) Keoghan Jnr

Our community was plunged into mourning on New Year's Day with the sudden passing of Richard (Richie) Keoghan Jnr.

Aged just 37 and the father of two little girls, Richie was an affable young man from a highly-respected Kilbeggan family. His father Richie Snr is a Kilbeggan GAA legend, and while he didn't play GAA himself, Richie Jnr was a keen supporter of our club and regularly attended matches, especially during the time when his first cousin Damian McLoughlin was involved as a manager and selector. He was also one of three mascots in 1992 when we won the junior treble (championship, league and Cup).

Richie was passionate about motorsports and also loved his rock music. The huge crowds which visited his home on the Comagh Road on Friday and Saturday evening and attended his funeral on Sunday morning were testament to his popularity. As a mark of respect to Richie and his family, all activities in our club were suspended last weekend, including Saturday night's lotto draw.

To his heartbroken daughters Cara and Ella, parents Richie and Helen, brother Mervyn, sisters Yvonne, Naomi and Michelle, relatives and friends, we extend our deepest sympathy.
