Mount Sion reach 70 mark
December 19, 2003
County senior hurling champions Mount Sion held their 70th annual general meeting on Sunday, December 14 with chairman Brendan Knox congratulating the senior side on winning back-to-back titles.
Mount Sion captured their 33rd title senior title this year when defeating old rivals Ballygunner after a replay and Knox urged the players and management to go for the three-in-a-row.
Secretary John Quinn gave a detailed report of the club's year while he also made his feelings known about the format of the championships in 2003.
Success comes at a price for clubs and Mount Sion are no different with their expenditure for the year reaching €100,000 with hurleys, sliotars and playing gear being the costliest at €23,000. Anthony Kirwan has been named as captain of the senior side for the coming year while Brian Greene will act as vice-captain.
With neither player being on the county panel, it is yet unknown which Mount Sion player will lead the Decies in 2004, although Ken McGrath has been tipped to do so.
