17 year gap bridged
December 12, 2003
Kilgobinet bridged a seventeen year gap by winning their second county junior hurling championship title with a 0-12 to 1-6 win over Tramore in the final at Walsh Park, Waterford on Sunday, December 12, 2003. Incidentally, the coastal resort side were also the their vanquished in the 1986 decider.
Tomas Fahey headed the field in the scoring stakes with 0-8 and the sides reached half time on level terms, 0-6 to 1-3.
Goalkeeper Jim Walsh recovered from an uncertain opening to put in a solid display. Paul Radley caught the eye at centre-half-back while Raymond Lynch stole the show at midfield.
But it was Fahey's scoring return that made the difference in the end.
Tramore were left to rue some valuable missed chances but had good showings from Conor Naughton, Peter Flanagan, Paul Ogle, Bob Costelloe and Mark Power.
