Mount Sion win at the death
November 18, 2002
Mount Sion 2-12
Mullinahone 0-15
Mount Sion's Eoin Kelly stole the leading role after his goal inspired the Waterford champions to victory over Mullinahone in their Munster club hurling championship semi-final at Walsh Park on Sunday, November 17th.
In the first half Mullinahone's Eoin Kelly looked like being the match winner but his thunder was stolen by his namesake from Waterford. The Tipperary champions, Mullinahone, were a point to the good with less than two minutes remaining when Kelly collected a puck-out from his Mount Sion goalkeeper Ian O'Regan.
The Mullinahone rearguard couldn't stop him from darting through and his powerful shot flew into the back of the net. It was his second goal of the game and Mount Sion had taken a dramatic lead. Ken McGrath added a further point to ensure victory.
Mullinahone's Kelly had helped them to a 0-8 to 0-6 lead at the break and they were value for that advantage. The second half was real tit-for-tat stuff but it was the Waterford side that ran out winners.
