SFC: Goals do the trick for Ballinacourty

July 02, 2009
Ballinacourty 3-9 Rathgormack 1-7 Two second-half goals paved the way for Ballinacourty's victory over Rathgormack in the Lawlor's Hotel County Senior Football Championship last Saturday evening at Kilmacthomas. Rathgormack opened up a 0-2 to 0-1 lead after the first five minutes thanks to points from Paul Drohan and Kevin Power, but quick goals from Sean O'Hare and Lar Hurney saw the winners take in a 2-4 to 0-4 lead at the break. James O'Mahony and John Gorman stretched that advantage after half-time, but Richie Power's penalty brought Rathgormack right back into the game on 37 minutes. Points from John Gorman (2) and Paudie Whelan saw the difference back to five for Ballinacourty and when Richie Foley netted late on there was simply no coming back for Rathgormack.
